Full Synopsis
Chang-su falls in love with his boss’s housemaid Yeong-ja and proposes to her before leaving for the Vietnam War. Soon after, Yeong-ja loses her job, becomes disabled and turns to sex work to make ends meet. Returning after three years, Chang-su vows to protect Yeong-ja, as they both face an uncertain future.
Though the narrative is rife with melodrama, it offers a startling glimpse into the youth culture emerging out of the post-war industrialisation era in Korea. Exuding a punk energy juxtaposed with the tragic spiralling of the heroine, this film offers a bittersweet tone to the Fatal & Fallen programme whilst embodying a heady mix of recklessness and misery.
* The screening of this film is supported by the Korean Film Archive.
