There Is No Evil is a film made up of four thematically connected stories. Each story is related to the death penalty in contemporary Iran. It contemplates the banality and everyday nature of evil where people are lawfully enforced to kill another human being. It examines the act of killing and what it does to the men who are enforced by the law to carry them out, and the ways in which it affects the people closest to them.

The first story revolves around a regular middle-aged family man, but who will come to reveal a dark secret he is hiding. The second and third stories follow young men who are conscripted soldiers and have dreams for their future life but are forced to confront the moral dilemmas that threaten those futures. The final story involves a young woman coming to question the idyllic life her aunt and uncle lead in the countryside. Suspenseful and confrontational yet surprisingly intimate, this is a powerful film that refuses any easy answers.
