Full Synopsis
The Golden Child is an orientalist dark fantasy martial arts action comedy film with a sprinkle of post-modern Blaxploitation (in the person of Eddie Murphy) on top. Though programmed here in American Trash the film could have easily been placed in Chinatown Origin Myths as Murphy’s character, Chandler Jarrell, recently bequeathed “The Chosen One”, searches for a kidnapped Tibetan boy, “The Golden Child” who is said to be the saviour of mankind.
This film is featured in the strand American Trash, part of the Constellating Histories: Encountering Asian American Diasporas Onscreen programme. For the full programme lineup please click here.
