Dreaming of that perfect vacation? A sweet respite from the doldrums of the everyday? Calling all frequent flyers and weekend warriors! This June, make Oldham Theatre your destination of choice as the Asian Film Archive presents Seasons in the Sun, a selection of films that pays tribute to the sunny getaways that have eluded us this past year.
A relaxing ritual activity filled with unbridled leisure, travel often brings us more than we bargained for. In many ways it is a parallel reality, a concentrated capsule of time and space, where emotions are heightened in an intoxicating reverie. And before we know, it all comes to an end, save for the memories and stories.
Where actual travel is curtailed, cinema can offer itself as a portal, a sensorial proxy through which we may find an escape. Awkward trips through the south of France; illicit affairs in the Korean hillside; strange encounters on the coasts of Japan – experience the thrills and troubles of the holidays, where love, heartbreak, wonder and dispassion are all part of the itinerary.
All films will screen at Oldham Theatre from 19 June to 10 July 2021.
