Full Synopsis
“That’s how it always begins, very small”. . .and we’re off into a whirlwind ride of sorcery, masterful cinematography, and understated (often ridiculous) social commentary. A cult classic from the director and the cinematographer of Halloween, featuring James Hong as Lo-Pan, a 7ft tall supernatural lecher with very long fingernails, there is very little not to love about this incredibly campy nugget of 1980’s Americana, which also features what is arguably Kurt Russell’s greatest performance.
This film is featured in the strand Chinatown Origin Myths, part of the Constellating Histories: Encountering Asian American Diasporas Onscreen programme. For the full programme lineup please click here.
