Singapore Girl

2004

Synopsis

A coming-of-age story set against 1980s Singapore. A young woman actualises her dream of becoming a flight attendant. She braves the rigorous interviews and training required for the job, but faces disapproval from her provincial family and boyfriend who feel abandoned by her desire to see the world. Just before her maiden flight, she has a chance encounter with a lecherous passenger which starkly reveals the objectification that besets the glamorous, ever-smiling Singapore Girl.
