Asian Film Archive Presents Symposium on Southeast
Asian Digital Cinema is the year-end culmination of
the entire Southeast Asian Digital Cinema event.
After the months of Cineodeon screenings, Round Table
discussions, In Conversation sessions and
Inter-school Filmmaking
workshops over August to November, what experiences
and learning points have been gleaned? How can we
engage and involve young people in digital media
creation, appreciation, analysis and promotion? How
does a grass-roots initiative like Asian Film
Archive Presents Southeast Asian Digital Cinema
contribute to building a community and promote
understanding of Southeast Asia?
The two-day Symposium will feature six selected
papers by students who have critically analyzed the
societal and cinematic issues raised in some of the
digital Asian films. Six short-listed films created
during the filmmaking workshops will be screened and
judged. Student groups from our screening school
partners will also exhibit their publicity campaigns
and share their marketing strategies. The papers and
projects will be judged by award winning Asian
filmmakers, film critics and scholars who will also
be speaking during the Symposium. Exciting prizes
sponsored by Canon will be awarded to students with
the Best Cineodeon Team, Best Film Paper and
Best Inter-school Film Project.
The uniqueness of this event lies in the great level
of student involvement and participation throughout
the SEADC series. Additionally, it is a timely focus
on Southeast Asian digital films and filmmakers in
light of the 40th anniversary of ASEAN.
This Symposium is organized as part of the ASEAN
Information Seminar Series. This Seminar Series is a
recurring project under the ASEAN COCI Sub-Committee
on Information, and is aimed at enhancing the
promoting knowledge and understanding of issues and
activities concerning ASEAN.
