Call for Paper
Asian Film Archive Presents Symposium on Southeast
Asian Digital Cinema is the year-end culmination of
the entire Southeast Asian Digital Cinema event.
After the months of Cineodeon screenings, Round Table
discussion, In Conversation sessions and filmmaking
workshops over August to November, what experiences
and learning points have been gleaned? How can we
engage and involve young people in digital media
creation, appreciation, analysis and promotion? How
does a grass-roots initiative like Asian Film
Archive Presents Southeast Asian Digital Cinema
contribute to building a community and promote
understanding of Southeast Asia?
We will seek projects and papers addressing
questions concerning:
• Representations of race, ethnicity, class, gender,
and/or minority groups
• Film criticism
• Media activism (film, video, and new media)
• Guerilla filmmaking
• Censorship
• Film policy (government, NGOs)Selected papers
on the films from various schools will be presented
during the Symposium, allowing for discourse between
the students, filmmakers and members of the public.
Film projects created during the filmmaking
workshops will also be screened, granting exposure
to our budding filmmakers. Student groups from our
screening partners will exhibit their publicity
campaigns and get the chance to talk about their
marketing strategies. The film groups whose works
have been showcased during the screenings will also
be in attendance.
Participants stand to win exciting prizes amounting
to over $6000 in total sponsored by Canon. The
