Educators' Workshop
Film & Language Arts: Strategies for Integration
|
|
The Asian Film Archive cordially invites educators, especially those who teach English,
Literature, Visual/Media Communication and Cultural Studies, to attend a two-day
workshop that will introduce to them strategic ways to use film in teaching and
learning of Language Arts and Literature. More importantly, this workshop aims to
shed more light on the variety of ways that
films in different
contexts can be interpreted
and enjoyed.
Course Description:
This two-day workshop will centre on strategies for integrating
the study of film into Language Arts in order to foster language competence in an
interdisciplinary context. The presenter, using examples from DHP Language Arts
(which he developed and implemented in 2005), will examine how film can bridge the
divide between the study of language and study of literature. In the workshop, participants
will learn how to develop a unit of work integrating the study of film
as well as relevant issues and themes stemming from the study of film.
Instructor: Ken Mizusawa is currently the Subject Head of Language Arts and English
Coordinator for the Gifted Education Programme (GEP) at Dunman High School. He designed
and implemented the new Language Arts curriculum with the launch of the Dunman High
Programme (DHP) in 2005, which fosters a student’s language competence via the interdisciplinary
context of film, theatre, politics, philosophy and literature. |
