Moving Minds Lab
For able and passionate students who want to do more than just film appreciation,
the Asian Film Archive moots the Moving Minds Lab for them to work hands-on
on film advocacy and research projects.
Moving Minds Lab is an initiative by the Asian Film Archive where students
will investigate the dynamics of the local film industry under the mentorship
of industry professionals. Students will initiate, drive and evaluate social
entrepreneurship projects to contribute to this community.
The first project that the Lab embarked on is a viral marketing campaign project for
Singapore Dreaming where students learnt how to market and promote a local film
(Singapore Dreaming) under the guidance of Colin Goh and Dr Woo Yen Yen.
At the end of these sessions, students learnt about audience segmentation,
points of attraction in a film, how to plan out a creative marketing campaign
for a film release and how to embark on a guerrilla-style film promotion via different
media channels.
Besides the film advocacy project, the new project the Lab embarked on for 2007 was
a film investigation and research project on lost or missing Singapore films made
before 1990. Students learnt how to conduct film investigation and research under
the guidance of Asian Film Archive’s Archivist Karen Chan and Executive Director
Tan Bee Thiam. At the end of these sessions, students learnt what information and
materials to look out for, about the different resources locally and overseas which
are available for them to tap on and how their findings can be analysed and concluded.
In so doing, the students were equipped to contribute back to the community,
a piece of the puzzle that made up our film heritage.
